Arimidex (Anastrozole) is a aromatase inhibitor (AI) in the anti estrogen classification. Arimidex eliminates estrogen by binding to it and disabling the aromatase enzyme which is responsible for the conversion of androgens to estrogen. Arimidex is used in treatment of breast cancer patients and gained attention by bodybuilders for the purpose of controlling estrogen. Estrogen related side effects for bodybuilders include gynecomastia (gyno), water retention, high blood pressure and more. Arimidex can reduce estrogen in blood stream by 50% on a single dose. Bodybuilders arimidex for it’s ability to eliminate rising estrogen levels, and by so doing eliminating estrogen side effects such as gyno.
There are few side effects of arimidex such as the negative impact on cholesterol, as arimidex will decrease the good cholesterol HDL and increase the bad cholesterol LDL. A further side effect is the possibility of estrogen rebound as arimidex will bind to the aromatase enzyme but does not do it permanently. At somepoint it will unbind and the enzyme is free to do it’s job again. Further lethargy and fatigue is commonly associated with Arimidex use.
Arimidex is used for Gynecomastia and estrogen control on cycle at about .5 mg to 1 mg per day per reports from bodybuilders and is adjusted depending on the user’s individual response. For Post cycle Therapy the dose is generally the same as on cycle, .5 mg to 1 mg per day during the Post Cycle Therapy cycle.
