 Ventorlin tablets

Salbutamol is a drug that is used to get relief from bronchospasm that is linked with conditions such as Asthma and other pulmonary diseases. Salbutamol is sold in the market under various brand names. It is available in the form of extended release tablets and inhaled route drugs such as metered dose inhalers, rotahalers, Autohalers and nebulizers etc. the medicine is used to prevent bronchospasm induced wheezing.

This medicine provides relief by relieving the troubles like cough, cold, wheezing and shortness of breath. The medicine is available only on the prescription of doctor.

Understanding the drug:

How it works?

The drug works by acting on the receptors in the lungs called β-2 receptors. Salbutamol acts on the receptors and stimulates them, as a result of which the muscles of the air passage relax. This leads to easy passage of air and opens the airway.

When should you avoid the drug?

You should not take this medicine if you:

  • Are allergic to this active ingredient Salbutamol or any other ingredient of the drug.
  • Are below 4 years of age, consult your doctor for the safety and efficacy.
  • Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant
  • Are breast feeding as the drug may pass into the breast milk
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have a history of epilepsy
  • Have a diabetes history
  • Have heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia)

How much to take?

Take the drug exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine and the condition of the patient.  Do not use more of it and do not use it more often than your doctor ordered.

How to take it?

If you are taking the tablets then you can just swallow the tablets with glass of water. Do not break or crush the tablet. Do not dissolve the tablets.Take it as full.

When to take?

Take the medicine as prescribed by the Doctor. Try to take the dose at the same time each day; this reduces the chances of missing a dose.

For how long should it be taken?

Do not stop taking the tablets or change the dose without consulting with your Doctor. This drug is meant to be taken on regular basis, so keep on taking the drug as long as recommended by the Doctor.

What if you take too much (overdose)?

If overdose, talk to Doctor or Poisons information centre for advice. Take medical help as soon as possible.

What if you miss the dose?

Consult your doctor if you miss the dose. If it’s less than one hour of the dose time missed then go and take the drug but if it’s more than 6 hours of the missed dose then leave the dose and take the next dose at the correct time period.  Don’t double up the dose in order to catch up the missed one.
